Fear

Winter is here.
Mostly its exciting and beautiful. I love getting bundled up, wearing scarves and big coats, lots of baking and snuggling.
But in the past, the cold has brought feelings of gloom and a rise in anxiety levels.

Last winter I let it defeat me big time.
When I look back on that season I take a deep breath and feel great relief that its over. But also I feel grattitude for that time, because I know that it is in those challenging moments of our lives that we are the very closest to our Heavenly Father.

Jeffrey R. Holland says, "In suffering we may in fact be nearer to God than we ever have in our entire lives. Regarding our earthly journey, the Lord has promised: "I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left. My spirit shall be in your hearts and mine angels round about you to bear you up."
It was last winter season that I sought out for help, learned about fear and overcame a lot of mine.
Mind Over Mood by Dennis Greenberger;
an excellent and highly recommended workbook for those struggling with anxiety/depression
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
 2 Timothy 1:6-7

That is the scripture that makes me feel like I can conquer the world.
And that is the scripture that I will continue to hang on to, especially this winter season.

I'm glad that you've found a way through it, Rachel! Thanks for sharing--it's never easy to let people know when you are struggling. And could Elder Holland be any greater? Seriously?! :)

that's one of my very favorite scriptures too. i hope this winter is better for you. heavenly father doesn't usually take away our greatest personal struggles, but he does give us the tools to work with them and turn them into something good. i think that's even more of a miracle. miss you!
