I'm Rachel. He's Jay.
I'm 5' 4''. He's 6' 7''.
I'm from San Diego, California. Jay is from Irvine/Riverside, California.
Jay went to BYU Provo for a semester before his mission in 2002. And then returned to BYU in 2005.
In January 2009 I moved to Provo, Utah and started beauty school at Paul Mitchell.
Thanks to my roommate Emma, within a few days of my move Jay and I met briefly at ward prayer.
It wasn't a "love at first sight" kind of thing. But I appreciated what a genuine guy he was. I also appreciated that he was from Southern California.
Since his apartment was directly across from mine, we ran into each other often.
We would occasionally text, chat on Facebook, or talk at a ward activity.
One day as we were chatting he told me about a rule he made for himself:
In an effort to save money and get better grades, he wasn't going to allow himself to date for a full semester.
I bluntly told him that was the stupidest thing I had ever heard.
I also told him his future wife is going to come along and he's going to miss her all because of a stupid rule.
After
6 weeks of classes as a cosmetology student, I had to find a volunteer for
my first ever professional haircut.
Jay was the first person that popped in my head. He seemed like the kind of person that wouldn't be too upset if I were to butcher his hair.
I asked if he was up for a free haircut. He agreed to be my victim.
So I guess our
first “date” lasted two hours in the Paul Mitchell School as I struggled
through my first haircut.
To be honest I can’t remember a thing we talked about. I was completely focused on not cutting his ear off.
We started talking more often, working out in the mornings together, sitting next to each other at church, all those little things.
I quickly realized I did indeed have feelings for this boy and hoped he did as well.
After only a couple weeks of being good friends, he told me he was going to make an exception...
"An exception to what?" I asked.
He replied, "an exception to my rule."
He then asked me on a date.
I accepted and soon after, we officially became boyfriend and girlfriend.
We dated for 11 months, were engaged for 3, and then were married on April 24th, 2010 in the San Diego Temple.
We came back to Provo where Jay graduated from BYU with his bachelor's degree in Psychology, and I finished beauty school.
After 3 years of work (1 of which was while he was finishing up his first year of undergrad work),
Jay was accepted into the MBA program at BYU.
Jay was accepted into the MBA program at BYU.
He went to school full-time while I worked at a salon full-time.
From May-August 2013, we lived in Memphis, Tennessee where Jay was an HR intern for Kellogg's.
In August 2013 we moved back to Provo. Jay graduated with his MBA from BYU in April 2014, then accepted a full-time job with Kellogg's in Battle Creek, Michigan.
You could say Battle Creek has been treating us well.
We moved into our first home on May 30th, bought a puppy on May 31st, and on July 12th found out we were expecting our first child- a girl due on March 17th! Jay works hard at his job, and I stay busy taking care of our pup, keeping the house in order, and preparing for the arrival of our little one.

I love doing hair, cooking for my sweets [see recipe blog], taking pictures [see photography blog], and anything crafty.
Together we love the outdoors, trying new things, and being with our friends and family.
But we do love our lazy evenings of ordering in food and watching a movie or show on Netflix.

This blog is our scrapbook/journal.
I record things we have done, things I want to remember, and share my crafts and ideas with friends and family.
Email if you need your hair done, or if you'd like to schedule a photoshoot.
