I have been meaning to blog about these kiddos for awhile now.
Jay and I have been teaching the 5 and 6 year old Primary class for almost two years. When we were first called, I remember being really excited! Then we taught our first class... Basically I came home in tears of frustration and inadequacy for the first couple weeks. We had several kids in the class with disabilities which made it a challenge. Luckily, it didn't take too long for me to get it together and was (still is) comforting to know that every week I have Jay right by my side.

We are teaching our second group of 5 and 6 year olds and it has been quite a hoot.
On the drive home from church, Jay and I are always quoting all the funny things they said to us that day. So I started writing down all the funny things they say! This will be a never-ending list I am sure, but so far this is what I have.

Frist, let me introduce...
Chay, Chole and Jay
We used to have a couple more kids but one of them moved out of the ward, and the other one comes on occasion. These three are our regulars and we love them.
We asked the kids if they had to leave their house and could only take a few things, what they would be. They each took turns getting up in front of the class to share their pictures...
Jamie: My table and on it is a tea cup, a carrot, and a cucumber. Then my bed and my sister's bed!
Chloe: I would bring love, happy faces, my mom and dad, and silly faces!
Jay: I would bring a pet tiger, a turtle and a car.

The lesson was about the blessings of being a member. I forget what we had them draw exactly but Jamie told us about her picture...
Jamie: This is a picture of a girl that got baptised and shes wearing lipstick. This is a rainbow with a heart and a tornado. A tornado in a different city. It was very sad.
Jamie was the most random child. One time in the middle of our class she yells and throws her arms up in the air, "Ahhh Cinderella!"
*
Sister Jensen: Whats your favorite food?
Jamie: Popcorn with bananas!
*
Sister Jensen: What do you want to be when you grow up?
Chloe: A paleontologist. And a spy!

Brother Jensen: Are you diggin for gold?
Jamie: No I'm just pickin nose.
*
Brother Jensen: Did you guys see the fireworks last night!?
Chloe: OH I did! And it was so beautiful and exquisite!
*
Our lesson was about families so we had the kids make their family trees.
Chloe: I need to write my sister's name, how do you spell Phoebe?
Chay: Whats a Phoebe?
*
Telling a story about a dog.
Sister Jensen: What are some things that can make a dog sick?
Chay: When they eat their poo!
*
We showed them a picture of a group of kids singing at church and asked what it was a picture of...
Chay: Uhh.. Jesus Christ.
That does seem to be a very common reply to many of our questions.

I'm telling the story of the wounded man who is helped by the Samaritan and I ask the kids how they can apply it to their own lives.
Jay: Well one time I was at the temple, then I went around the back and down in this hole was a wounded bird. So next time, I think I'll help the bird!

Primary is wonderful, interesting and sometimes difficult.
Sometimes I miss being in relief society because the lessons were always so powerful for me. But Primary is so powerful in it's own, simple way. Its the simplicity of it that I love.
The children have such sweet, fresh spirits and I'm just so grateful for this calling.
Good old primary days.

CUTE!
Thanks for this, Rachel! I've been wondering how you guys were doing, so I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your class. You really have some of the sweetest kids in there and how lucky you guys are to get to teach them! :)
Such cute quotes! What darling kiddos you teach. I love the picture of you, my tiny little sissy! After being in primary for the last almost 3 years, I have learned that it really can be just as spiritually uplifting as relief society. You are right; it's simplicity is powerful!
