The Holi Festival of Colors is an ancient Hindu religious festival which has become popular with
non-Hindus in many parts of South Asia, as well as people of other
communities which primarily started in India and Nepal.
The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of
spring, end of winter, and a day to meet others, play
and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair ruptured relationships
The Krishna temple in Spanish Fork hosts the Holi Festival every year and every year it is a huge hit!
Our
dear friend Sonal grew up in India and joined us for the festival.
Adam, Kenzi, their kids, and Sonal's roommate Ashley also joined.
Immediately
after entering the temple grounds, strangers covered in color were
touching us, smearing and throwing powdered chalk all over.
At first it was a little intense. But it didn't take long to get into it.
The highlight of the festival happens every thirty minutes...
People gather around the amphitheater and with music playing everyone counts down from 10, then throws chalk everywhere!
I'm
just thankful I thought to put my phone in a plastic bag. Instead of
getting completely destroyed, I was able to use it to capture some great
photos.
