Nesting | The Nursery

In December Jay and I began making plans for the baby's room. At this point we weren't sure that we would even have a dresser for our girl and planned to be as conservative as possible, making due with the little space we had available. Slowly we accumulated more baby items and were so graciously gifted a dresser from my mom and dad, and a crib from Kari and Mike. Our original plan of designating the room as an office/nursery went right out the window when Jay so willingly suggested moving his office to the basement, giving the whole room to baby girl. Our basement is dark, cold, and kind of smelly, so really this was a sacrifice on Jay's part.

The room became my blank canvas. It was crazy exciting! Color schemes and decor ideas were exploding in my head. Things came together after hours of seeking inspiration through Pinterest and blogs.
Painting the room initially seemed silly. We're only renting, so why invest in a home that we may only be in for another 12-18 months? The original paint wasn't an awful color but all the scuffs and little holes from the previous renters seemed like reason enough for a fresh coat. Plus, painting the small room wouldn't require much time or money, and I truly enjoy a good painting project. So we got approval from the landlord then went to work! Dad came to town in the middle of January- just in time to assist me. Dad has way more experience with painting than I do and I was thrilled to have his help.
Once painting was complete Jay and I slowly moved baby girl's furniture into the room. Keeping our budget in mind, I began working on all the little details. I had a vision of the end result but as I tested out different decor and color schemes, making a lot of purchases and returns at Target and T.J.Maxx [the lady working at the customer service desk at Target and I are now pretty much best friends], that vision evolved into something totally different. Last week I made my final purchases and returns, thus completing the room.

At least until she's a bit older I know our little girl won't have a care in the world as to what her room looks like. But I am truly grateful for the opportunity I had to put my heart and soul into this space, dedicating it to her and all the memories that lie ahead with her in the nursery.
