Jay surprised me by coming home from work at 1:00. Then he invited me to join him on a trip to the store. Apparently we were out of gum and Jay was in desperate need, haha. We were also almost out of diapers, so off to Sam's Club we went. After Sam's Club we got in the car and Jay says, "What stores are in the shopping center across the street?" After I listed them off he suggested we drive over there. It's actually quite funny how oblivious I was to all of this. Jay hates shopping, and a trip to the store just for gum? I should have known something was up.
We drove across the street and basically circled the parking lot. I thought Jay was about to take us back to main road but he took a sharp turn towards the AT&T store and said, "How about we get you a new phone?" I was totally surprised! And extremely touched. After insisting that it was not necessary, [although it sort of was, I've had my iPhone 4s for three years and it's been causing me grief] he parked, we went into the store, and I came out with an iPhone 6! And I found out afterwards the reason Jay asked about the stores across the street and circled the parking lot was because he didn't actually know where the AT&T store was. Haha.
Later that evening we ate at Thai Cuisine in Kalamazoo. And sweet Evelyn slept peacefully in her car seat throughout the whole meal, allowing Jay and I to enjoy some precious one on one time.
I'm so grateful for our marriage. Five years doesn't sound like a whole lot but when I think back, I'm blown away by all we've experienced during our short time as husband and wife- the good and the bad. I'm stoked to see what the next five years bring. And eternity? The possibilities are endless! I love my Jay. He is selfless, compassionate, hard working, stinking hilarious, and so good to me and Evelyn. I don't even want to think about where I would be had I not accepted his marriage proposal.
I'm also grateful for our little peanut. Though we were tired and a little bit out of it, we were thrilled to include her in our anniversary celebration.
