Jay's been coming home for lunch just about every work day since Evelyn's birth.
I really appreciated when he first started doing this because first of all, he took three weeks of paternity leave when Evelyn was born. It was an adjustment when he went back to work, but having him home in the afternoons helped me ease into a new routine. Secondly, I was a new mom who often felt lonely. Knowing my love would be coming home for lunch gave me something to look forward to. And thirdly, Evelyn was my main focus and I didn't have the energy to give Kella the attention she needed. I felt less guilty about neglecting Kella and took comfort in knowing that Jay would be home to take on that responsibility.
Here we are almost nine months later. Having Jay home for lunch is just a part of our daily routine. Jay comes home anywhere between 11:00 and 1:00. The second the garage door goes up Kella bolts to the kitchen and patiently waits for him to walk through the door. We greet him and then he goes back outside and plays fetch with Kella while I prepare lunch. I call Jay in for lunch and we enjoy our meal sometimes just the two of us and sometimes all three of us, depending on whether Evelyn is awake or not. Because the cereal plant is only 10 minutes away, on average we get to spend an hour with him for lunch. Every now and then we get to have him home for longer than an hour. One time he came home and we had gone about our routine, then I asked him what time he had to be back at work and he responded, "Oh I don't know..." Then when I asked him again a few minutes later he smirked and said, "I'm done for the day." He's such a trickster.
We've been totally spoiled and I know having Jay home for lunch isn't something that will last forever, but we've really enjoyed it- all three of us.
