Baby Jensen Number Two | 28 Weeks
Trimester: Third.
Baby: Size of a head of cauliflower [16 inches, 2.5 lbs]. Baby is practicing new skills such as blinking, coughing, sucking, hiccuping, and taking practice breaths. Sleep now includes the rapid eye movement phase-- and that means he could be dreaming already. Baby boy is able to recognize different levels of light. Even though he still has much growing to do, his body is getting chubbier as fat is depositing under the wrinkled skin. Muscles are developing some tone as well. If born at the end of the week, he has a 95% chance of survival.
Movement: Baby boy is quite active and getting so strong. The other day one of his kicks was so strong and unexpected that I literally jumped.
Symptoms: Hot flashes, heartburn, gassy, constipated, emotional, and very frequent urination. Apparently you tend to carry your second baby lower in your belly and I've learned that to be very true... I will be perfectly comfortable going about my day and then suddenly will feel a little kick to my bladder sending me straight to the bathroom. I'm literally going to the bathroom every hour, if not more.
Cravings: Pretty much anything. I feel like I'm eating more frequently than ever. Some of my current go-to snacks/favorite foods: apples, strawberries, quesadillas, yogurt, smoothies, sandwiches
Sleep: Great. Whatever surge of energy/nesting that was going on last month has slowly fizzled. Probably because I wore myself out.
Exercise: Daily walks around the park now that the weather has finally cooled down.
Stretch marks: None.
Total weight gain: 18 pounds.
Swelling: None.
Maternity Clothes: Yes. Getting dressed is becoming a little more frustrating. I'm grateful that the weather has cooled off, but we've still had some pretty hot days and I've been especially sensitive to it. I'm just so grateful I didn't have to endure the scorching desert summer heat while in my third trimester! My sweet sister, Jess, sent me a pair of her old maternity jeans and they have been a game changer! I'm also working on fashioning my own maternity jeans using a pair of old jeans and some elastic. They don't work great, but a whole lot better and more comfortable than using a hair tie to keep my pants together. Of course if I don't have to leave the house I pretty much just stick to leggings.
Belly Button: Out.
Doctor's Visit: Jay wasn't around to come along to the appointment and help out with Evelyn, due to travel for work. I stepped out of my comfort zone and took my good friend Chelsea up on her offer to watch Evelyn while I went to my appointment. I felt a lot of anxiety the night beofre and morning of my appointment, not just about leaving Evelyn with someone besides family for the very first time but also about the glucose test. Due to miscommunication during my last appointment, I wasn't able to get my blood drawn again. Luckily everything went smoothly the second time around... I took up a good friend's advice to put the drink in the freezer an hour before drinking it. By then it was slushy and honestly pretty delcious. Good to know for next time! As far as dropping Evelyn off and getting my blood drawn in time, everything worked out flawlessly. My appointment with the doctor was set for 9:45, but because I was there early to get my blood drawn the doctor took me back around 9:35. Got to hear baby boy's strong heartbeat, doctor measured my belly which measured between 26 and 29 weeks, then I was heading back out to my car by 9:40. Chelsea assured me Evelyn didn't miss me too much and had a great time playing with her little friend Ezra.
What I'm Looking Forward to: Each new week. It's pretty surreal to already be in the last trimester of this pregnancy. I'm trying to just keep enjoying the ride of pregnancy but I'm also starting to feel a little bit antsy to meet this little guy. I find myself frequently daydreaming about holding him, smooching him, and basking in that newborn goodness.
Best Moment of the Month: Having a wuick and successful doctor's visit, and getting the glucose blood test out of the way.
Worst Moment of the Month: None.
