The night before picking up Kella, Jay said he was more excited about getting the pup than he was about getting the house! It was indeed a very happy day driving home from Otsego with our new pup in the car. She was just as sweet as we remembered, drenching me with puppy kisses the whole hour long drive.
After doing research on what to do when bringing home a pup and other dog training techniques, Jay and I felt very prepared. The first thing we did with Kella was take her to her "potty spot". Then we went for a walk. She's a pup new to the world, has never left the Rescue, never worn a collar or a leash, so it shouldn't have been a surprise to me that the walk was a total fail. We got half way down the street and decided to turn around.
Kella was very timid and nervous about her new surroundings. Every thing, even just being indoors was a new experience for her. Once Jay got her to come inside, she wouldn't leave his side.
On the first night Kella slept in a pen by our bed. She whined but fell asleep quickly. Then she woke up and I took her outside at 1:00am, 3:00am, and 6:00am. Every time I put her back in the pin she whined but only for a minute before falling back asleep. We were practically falling asleep in church the next day, but overall we feel we are off to a good start with our pup.
