WEEK 5

Trimester: First.
Baby: Resembles a teeny tadpole, about the size of an orange seed. The blood system along with the heart is functional. The neural tube [eventually becomes the brain and spinal cord] is under construction.
Movement: None.
Symptoms: Crazy exhaustion [taking daily naps, and I am NOT a nap person], headaches.
Cravings: None. Just a raging appetite.
Sleep: Night time is when I fantasize the most about our little one. And I just get so excited about every little thing in our future that it keeps me from falling asleep. And then when I do finally fall asleep, I usually dream about him/her. Once I dreamt it was twins- a boy and a girl. And two times I dreamt it was a boy. I love waking up and realizing that those dreams will soon be a reality, and not just a tease of something I once thought I may never have.
Exercise: Walking/running.
Stretch Marks: None.
Total Weight Gain: None.
Swelling: None.
Maternity Clothes: Nope.
Belly Button: In.
What I'm Looking Forward To: Telling the family.
Best Moment of the Week:Talking about baby names with Jay. We already picked out a girl name, but can't seem to agree on a boy name.
Worst Moment of the Week: Getting my first UTI.

Baby: Size of a lentil. Jaw, cheeks, chin, eyes, ears, and nose are beginning to form. Kidneys, liver, and lungs are developing. Heart is beating 80 times per minute.
Movement: None.
Symptoms:Crazy exhaustion [even more so than last week], mild cramping off and on, waves of nausea particularly when I'm hungry, frequent trips to the bathroom, sensitive breasts.
Cravings: Panera, Panera, Panera! Cranberry-Pomegranate juice. I'm still thoroughly enjoying my smoothie and toast in the mornings, but when it comes to lunch and dinner I have a hard time finding things that sounds good to eat.
Sleep: Great.
Exercise: Walking.
Stretch Marks: None.
Total Weight Gain: None.
Swelling: None.
Maternity Clothes: Nope.
Belly Button: In.
What I'm Looking Forward To: First ultrasound.
Best Moment of the Week: Spilling the beans to the family.
Worst Moment of the Week: None.
Other: Every now and then I think of the possibility of miscarrying. It freaks me out, but I'm trying so very hard stay positive and show gratitude for every day that comes.

WEEK 7

Trimester: First.
Baby: Size of a blueberry. [10,000 times bigger than at conception.] New brain cells are being generated. Mouth and tongue are forming as arm and leg buds sprout. Kidneys are getting ready to do their job [pee production and excretion].
Movement: None.
Symptoms: Constipation, exhaustion, cramping off and on, mild nausea, emotional, frequent trips to the bathroom, sensitive breasts.
Cravings: Nothing in particular. Things like smoothies, popsicles, and bread always sound the most appetizing. Pretty much any vegetable makes me gag, so unfortunately I haven't been eating any at all.
Sleep: Great. Still dreaming so much about this baby. Lately I've been dreaming it's a girl.
Exercise: Walking.
Stretch Marks: None.
Total Weight Gain: None.
Swelling: None.
Maternity Clothes: Nope. Although, some of my pants are starting to feel snug due to all the bloating from being constipated.
Belly Button: In.
What I'm Looking Forward To: Our first ultrasound!
Best Moment of the Week: Kella has a lot of energy when she wakes up at 6:00 am. Normally I get up with her but Jay has taken over completely, letting me get some extra sleep. He has been a total rockstar.
Worst Moment of the Week: Vomiting. Luckily it was only once and seemed to just be a consequence of over-eating at a Chinese buffet. Never again.

8/5/2014
WEEK 8

Trimester: First.
Baby: Size of a large raspberry [approximately 1/2 inch long]. Looking a lot less reptilian [even though it still has webbed fingers and toes, the tail is just about gone] as the lips, nose, eyelids, legs, and back continue to take shape. The baby's productive organs will either become testes or ovaries, but it is still too soon to tell through an ultrasound.
Movement: None.
Symptoms: Constipation, exhaustion, cramping off and on, mild nausea, emotional, frequent trips to the bathroom, sensitive breasts,
facial breakouts.
Cravings: Nothing in particular. Things like smoothies, popsicles, and bread always sound the most appetizing. Still struggling with the vegetables.
Sleep: Great.
Exercise: Walking.
Stretch Marks: None.
Total Weight Gain: 3 pounds.
Swelling: None.
Maternity Clothes: Nope.
Belly Button: In.
Doctor's Visit: My first pregnancy ultrasound where we got to see AND hear our baby's heart beat was truly the best day of this pregnancy so far! We took a video and I cannot stop watching it.
What I'm Looking Forward To: Each new week. I check my app every day and love learning about all the progress this little one is making.
Best Moment of the Week: Doctor's visit.
Worst Moment of the Week: None.

8/12/2014
WEEK 9

Trimester: First.
Baby: Size of a grape [nearly 1 inch long]. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Tiny muscles are beginning to form. Nipples are forming. My body is developing the placenta- the baby's lifeline. All the essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. The baby's eyes have fully developed but will take quite a few weeks before they open.

Movement: None.
Symptoms: My whole digestive system seems to be in havoc- inconsistent constipation and diarrhea. Bloating, exhaustion, mild nausea, frequent trips to the bathroom, sensitive breasts, facial breakouts.
Cravings: Nothing in particular. Things like smoothies, popsicles, and bread always sound the most appetizing. Still no luck with the vegetables.
Sleep: Great.
Exercise: Walking, swimming.
Stretch Marks: None.
Total Weight Gain: 3 pounds.
Swelling: None.
Maternity Clothes: Nope, but I'm doing the rubber band trick on most of my pants.
Belly Button: In.
What I'm Looking Forward To: Telling the world! We've told family and a few friends, and a part of me is very excited to make a big announcement via social media, but another part of me loves having this little secret.
Best Moment of the Week: At first I was nervous about the possibility of miscarrying, but here I am at week 9! 3 weeks away from my second trimester! I know there is always a possibility of something going wrong at any point of pregnancy but the further along I get, the more at ease I feel. Just so grateful for my Heavenly Father who continues to watch over me.
Worst Moment of the Week: None.

8/19/2014
WEEK 10

Trimester: First.
Baby: Size of an avocado pit. Has small indentations on it's legs [soon to be knees and ankles], and has tiny arms with elbows that bend. Tiny buds of baby teeth are forming under the gums. Stomach and kidneys are kicking into gear, producing digestive juices and urine. If it's a boy, his testes are making testosterone. Tissues and organs are rapidly growing. Tiny finger nails are forming on fingers and toes, and peach-fuzz hair is growing on that tender skin.
Movement: None.
Symptoms: Constipation, exhaustion [but slowly getting some of my energy back], cramping off and on, mild nausea, emotional, frequent trips to the bathroom, sensitive breasts,
facial breakouts.
Cravings: My cravings aren't too strong, but this week I craved Mexican food more often than anything else. Still loving refreshing snacks like smoothies and popsicles.
Sleep: Great.
Exercise: Swimming.
Stretch Marks: None.
Total Weight Gain: 3 pounds.
Swelling: None.
Maternity Clothes: Nope, but I'm doing the rubber band trick on most of my pants.
Belly Button: In.
What I'm Looking Forward To: Ultrasound at my 12 week appointment.
Best Moment of the Week: I still have moments where I forget I'm pregnant for like a second, then I think about everything that's happening in my body and I'm blown away all over again.
Worst Moment of the Week: Experiencing heartburn for the first time. Thank you, Krispy Kreme.

WEEK 11

Trimester: First.
Baby: Size of a lime [about 2 inches long]. Growing hair follicles, fingernails, and ovaries [if she's a girl]. Has distinct human characteristics, with hands and feet, ears nearly in their final shape, open nasal passages, a tongue and palate in the mouth. Already busy kicking and stretching, and these tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet.
Movement: None.
Symptoms: Constipation, exhaustion [but slowly getting some of my energy back], cramping off and on, mild nausea, emotional, frequent trips to the bathroom, sensitive breasts, facial breakouts.
Cravings: Nothing in particular. Just trying to stick to mild/bland food. Still having a REALLY hard time eating vegetables. The only thing I've been able to get down is a salad with iceberg, spinach, cucumbers, and carrots with Italian dressing. Better than nothing I suppose.
Sleep: Great. Still having dreams about this little one.
Exercise: Walking.
Stretch Marks: None.
Total Weight Gain: 3 pounds
Swelling: None.
Maternity ClothesNope, but I'm doing the rubber band trick on most of my pants. I don't know that I feel pregnant yet but I definitely feel bloated. Maxi dresses and loose tops are preferred.
Belly Button: In.
What I'm Looking Forward To: Ultrasound at my 12 week appointment.
Best Moment of the Week: I've been thinking back to when I worked full-time alongside women who were pregnant and very sick. When I was at Great Clips there were multiple occasions where those girls would be vomiting in-between haircuts. Awful. I'm just so very grateful for Jay who works so hard and supports my decision to be at home.
Worst Moment of the Week: The other night I suddenly felt very very sick. I didn't throw up but I felt so nauseous that I wish I could have just thrown up so the nausea would pass. I realize that I've had it pretty darn good as far as the "morning sickness" goes and I'm just so grateful for this pregnancy, I would throw up every day if that's what it took. But to be real, feeling even just a little bit nauseous is no fun and I'll be glad when the nausea subsides.

9/2/2014
WEEK 12

Trimester: First.
Baby: Size of a large plum, weighing a full half-ounce and measuring at a good 2 inches from head to rump. Most of baby's systems are in place, though there's still plenty of maturing to do. Fetal digestive system is beginning to practice contraction movements necessary for eating, and bone marrow is busy making white blood cells. Kidneys are producing urine from the amniotic fluid that baby ingests. Baby is now able to bend, stretch, kick, and even make faces.
Movement: None.
Symptoms: Nausea [probably the worst it's been], hungry ALL the time, more energy, cramping off and on, frequent trips to the bathroom, sensitive breasts, facial breakouts.
Cravings: We have driven by McDonald's billboard with the 49 cent ice cream cones several times. The last time we drove by it was Sunday so we didn't stop. But ever since, I've had a real hankering for one! A couple weeks ago I had a craving for Chili. It didn't go away, so the next week I made Chili for dinner and never has Chili tasted SO good to me. Other than that, for the most part I'm still sticking to simple/bland foods, and every vegetable still sounds so awful. I'm making sure to eat my salad every day, and occasionally forcing other vegetables down.
Sleep: Great.
Exercise: Walking.
Stretch Marks: None.
Total Weight Gain: 3 pounds.
Swelling: None.
Maternity Clothes: Nope, but I'm doing the rubber band trick on most of my pants.
Belly Button: In.
Doctor's Visit: Our baby is as healthy as can be! We heard and saw the heart beat [163 beats per minute]. I only wish those ultrasounds were longer. I could watch our little one on that screen all day long! Seeing that miracle growing inside my belly gives me such hope and confidence in the rest of my pregnancy.
What I'm Looking Forward To: Hitting the second trimester and hopefully feeling less nauseous.
Best Moment of the Week: Doctor's visit.
Worst Moment of the Week: None.
