Hair Drama

For the majority of my life I've been blonde, so that's always felt most like my natural color. However, it is not, and being blonde requires a lot of upkeep and expense. I've spent the last 18 months as a blonde and for the last couple months I have been feeling the need for a change- a less expensive and low maintenance hairstyle.
Because I am a licensed cosmetologist, I figured I could easily color it myself and by doing so would be saving tons of money. So I attempted a natural and subtle ombré look. Instead I got a nasty, muddy, granny grey ombré look.

I'm a hairstylist, a well trained and well educated professional. How did I do this to myself? It's a little embarrassing. And the worst part- I didn't even know how to fix it. I had a couple of ideas, but at that point my confidence as a hairdresser was pretty shaken and I felt a trip to the salon was my only option.
Sweet Jay. He told me I looked great and that I should just leave it. But there was no chance of that happening.
After calling a few people for recommendations, I made an appointment with Michelle at Dolce Salon in Portage.

Although I really didn't want to lose all of my blonde, I gave Michelle permission to do what was necessary. Michelle was an absolute delight to talk to. And more importantly, she did a fantastic job on my hair! Also, because I was a referral she gave me 25% off my service.

Michelle added in a few strands of blonde which I loved, but I was still mourning the loss of all my blonde and I still really wanted more of an ombré look. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my hair and wasn't planning on stopping until I had the look I wanted. So I took a crazy plunge and colored it myself AGAIN. [Seriously, whats wrong with me?]

Afterwards Jay said, "So what were you planning on doing if it didn't turn out this time either?" I really don't know what I would have done, ha ha. But oh well! I honestly am so thrilled with how it turned out.
All it took was one bad self-dye job, a trip to the salon, and one good self-dye job.

The color at my roots is almost exactly my natural. So the current plan is to let the color fade and grow out my natural color.
But ya know, plans change.
