Thanksgiving 2014

This morning I woke up feeling terribly nauseous, and physically and emotionally tired and unmotivated. I was able to sleep off the nausea but had a harder time finding the energy to get ready for our Thanksgiving feast with the Wilson's. Inevitably came an emotional breakdown. But soon after came comforting words from my dear Jay which gave me the energy I needed to finish preparing my contributions for the Thanksgiving meal: sweet potato casserole, green beans, and Oreo pie.

While primping for the day I listened to President Monson's Talk: The Divine Gift of Gratitude.
We have all experienced times when our focus is on what we lack rather than on our blessings. Said the Greek philosopher Epictetus, 'He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.'

We have much reason to "rejoice". Not just today, the day of giving thanks, but every day. While there is much that is wrong in the world, there is so much that is right. This morning my mind was clouded by the "wrong", but throughout the day I was reminded of all the "right".

On our drive to the Wilson's home in Galesburg...
Rachel: What are you most thankful for?
Jay: You.
Rachel: And what else?
Jay: Hmmmm...You.
Rachel: Annnd?
Jay. Um... You.
Jay then asked me the same question, and I of course repeated his answers. We both listed off few more things we were grateful for, including: our baby girl, toilets, electricity, our home, our families, our friends, the Gospel, food, and Jay's job.

After our delectable feast we did some good lounging, played Apples to Apples, then busted into dessert which consisted of: 6 pies [2 pumpkin, pecan, blueberry, Oreo, and Reese's], one batch of raspberry cream cheese muffins, and cookies.
Between all the nausea I've been experiencing and Jay's recent food poisoning incident, we were both so very thankful to be feeling well enough to enjoy such a lovely Thanksgiving with the missionaries, and our dear friends who so kindly took us in for the holiday.
