Baby Jensen Number Two | 8 Weeks
Trimester: First.
Baby: Size of a large raspberry [approximately 1/2 inch long]. Looking a lot less reptilian [even though it still has webbed fingers and toes, the tail is just about gone] as the lips, nose, eyelids, legs, and back continue to take shape. The baby's productive organs will either become testes or ovaries, but it is still too soon to tell through an ultrasound.
Movement: None.
Symptoms: Mild cramping, head aches, gassy, emotional, increased appetite, exhausted, and nausea. With Evelyn my nausea started closer to six weeks, but it took a little longer with this baby which I can't complain about.
Cravings: Meat, soda, junk food.
Sleep: Great besides waking up 2-3 times with Evelyn.
Exercise: Swimming, and walking whenever it's not too hot, which isn't very often. I don't do as much regular structured exercise anymore, but I feel living in a two story house keeping up with daily chores and chasing after a toddler all day counts as pretty good exercise.
Stretch marks: None.
Total weight gain: None.
Swelling: None.
Maternity Clothes: Nope.
Belly Button: In.
Doctor's Visit: Finding a new doctor in a new town is never a fun or easy task. Luckily I had already been on the hunt for an OBGYN because I knew I was due for my yearly check-up anyway. And then when I found out I was pregnant the hunt was in full force. I collected a few references and went about making my decision. Not knowing how to go about making this decision, I reached out to Jess. She advised me to give each office a call with a few questions prepared, then from there to simply go with my gut. Then she assured me that if I end up unhappy with my choice at any time, I can always switch doctors without too much hassle. While making my calls I had a really good feeling about Dr. Swainston. His office is about 25 miles away, which is almost the exact distance we drove to our doctor in Kalamazoo while I was pregnant with Evelyn. On our way to the first appointment, the office felt further than 25 miles and I began to worry that maybe it was silly to make an unnecessary drive when there are plenty of other doctors to choose from right in our town. But by the end of the appointment I still felt we made the right choice by coming to this doctor at this office. While in the process of making my decision about which doctor to see, so many of the doctors whom I contacted were not willing to do a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) delivery. But there at Dr. Swainston's office I felt not only supported but encouraged in my decision to try for a VBAC. That right there was confirmation that we had made the right decision.
As far as baby goes: Strong heart beat- 167, and baby is perfectly healthy as far as we can tell. Turns out I may have been a little off on my dates... Based off of the date of my last period, I'm about 9 weeks. According to a measurement of my uterus I'm 6 weeks 6 days. According to a measurement of baby from head to rump I'm 8 weeks. And according to another measurement of baby I'm 7 weeks 3 days. So my doctor is putting me at 8 weeks, with a new due date January 23rd rather than January 18th. This could explain why I didn't start feeling sick until a little later. Initially I was a little bummed to have to jump back a week and of course was a little nervous because often when a fetus is measuring small that means it's not a healthy baby. But my doctor never voiced any concerns and that was enough reassurance for me.
What I'm Looking Forward to: Each new week. Even though I've done this before, I love being able to check my app every Monday and read about all the new things happening inside my body.
Best Moment of the Month: Hearing our baby's heartbeat- one of the best sounds in the entire world!
Worst Moment of the Month: None.
