Sleep: It Gets Easier

There was a time when putting Evelyn down for naptime/bedtime was a stressful ordeal. In the beginning months I buried myself in so many sleep training books and articles; trying to learn the tricks of getting her to fall asleep on her own, nap longer than forty minutes, and possibly sleep more than two hour stretches at night. I constantly asked myself what I was doing wrong and wondered if it would ever get easier. Eventually I learned to let certain things go and settled on a routine that worked for us, keeping in tune with my mommy intuition.

For the last seven or so months our routine has gone as follows:
Stories, nurse/bottle in the rocking chair, and into the crib with Binky-Bear. She rolls (to the left, every single time) onto her belly and falls asleep on her own.
It's flawless 99% of the time. Naps have been bumped up to a full two hours. And sleeping through the night? Still a work in progress but with definite improvement.

Remembering my frustrations in her early days, I realize I have taken these small victories for granted. They deserve praise and documentation. And to serve as a reminder for my future self to hang in there, because it really truly DOES get easier.
