Sewing Tutorial | Maxi Skirt

I've done quite a few small sewing projects through the years and I love it!
My mom is an awesome seamstress [like made her own wedding dress and a couple of my bridesmaid's dresses, kind of awesome]
She taught me the basics of sewing and assisted me in making some basic things like pillows, bags and even a skirt.
My biggest sewing project took place about 3 years ago when I made Jay a blanket for his Birthday.
With the help of my sister Jess, it turned out so good and Jay loved it.

This past Christmas, I was so ecstatic when I got my own sewing machine!
I had all these projects I was dying to do and I could finally do them because I had a sewing machine!
But the one time I used it was not a fun experience.
My skills were rusty, trying to learn a new machine was frustrating, and I gave up too easily.

In the past few months of being inspired by tons of tutorials on Pinterest, I gave sewing another go.
It started out the same as the last time- frustrating. The bloody bobbin kept coming out and I couldn't thread it back in! And THEN I broke the needle.
And then I almost cried. But to my rescue as always my sweet cousin Tiff came. She showed me how to put in a new needle, how to thread the bobbin, AND the best part, she brought me a Wendy's frosty :).
I don't know what I would do without that girl.

So anyway, here is a tutorial of the maxi skirt that I made.
It was EASY and definitely boosted my confidence.
It is my new goal to use my sewing machine more often and hopefully with lots of patience learn to make lots of wonderful, useful things!

Supplies:
-1 1/2 yards fabric depending on your size.
-elastic
-safety pin
-sewing machin

Step one:
Measure your waist.
Step two:
Multiply your waist measurement by two or three depending on how full you want your skirt.

Step three:
Cut a piece of elastic to your waist measurement.

Step four:
Make a casing for the elastic. [This will be the width of the skirt.]
Fold the top of the fabric over. Make sure the elastic will fit through the casing.
Pin and then sew.
Step five:
Attach a safety pin to the end of the elastic and thread it through the casing.
Step six:
Secure with ends of the elastic and fabric with pins.
Step seven:
Pin and then sew the skirt together wrong-side out.
Step 8:
Adjust the length of the skirt to your desire and hem.
But if you're smart like me and buy a fabric that doesn't fray, you won't have to hem it :).

Step 9:
Turn the skirt right-side out and wear it!
