Mom Comes to Tennessee

Jay was headed off to a three day orientation in Michigan. My mom saw that as a perfect opportunity to come visit.
I'm so glad she did! The idea of being all alone in an empty apartment in a new town for 3 days wasn't appealing to me.

Mom stayed for 6 days. It was such a blast to have so much one on one time.
We took a lot of walks and discovered gorgeous parts of the neighborhood.
We also discovered PANERA. [hallelujah!]
We made dinner together, went grocery shopping, and watched chick flicks.

Mouse loves grandma!

Grandma Jackie [my mom's mom] was born and raised in Memphis til she was about 15.
The house grandma lived in was built by her dad. Mom and I were excited to see it!
We got the address and headed to Frayser
to check out the house, as well as the elementary school grandma went to.
The neighborhood was absolutely beautiful; trees everywhere, even more so than in our neighborhood.
The houses were so old. Some of them were kept up well, but mostly they were pretty trashed and some were completely empty.
As we were searching for grandma's house and taking pictures,
I noticed that a lot of people were out sitting on their porches, in the middle of the day...
I also noticed that with our white skin and blonde hair, we really stood out.
I got the feeling that maybe we needed to wrap things up. But at the same time I wasn't terribly worried,
we didn't plan on staying long. I just snapped a few pictures and we were gone.

Once we got back to Bartlett, mom saw that grandma emailed us a picture of the house.
Turns out we were in the right neighborhood, but went to the wrong house. Whoops!
It was a little frustrating, but at least I got pictures of the neighborhood and the elementary school.

Come to find out a couple of days later... Mom and I are lucky to be alive.
Apparently Frasyer is not the place you wanna be. Ever.
Jay claims that I was there when Mike told us, but I must not have heard the warning. I definitely would have remembered.
Needless to say I felt pretty stupid afterwards, but oh well. Now I know!
And now mom and I have a great story to tell.

I have such an awesome mother. I'm so happy that I get to see her as often as I do.
Thanks again mom for taking time away from everyone else so that you could be with me.
