Tornado Warning

A couple in our ward, Jeff and Kammie Lee, had us over for dinner.
We had such a lovely time with them and appreciate how incredibly welcome they have made us feel.

During our dinner conversation we asked them about tornadoes; had they ever seen one,
experienced a tornado warning, and where do you go when there is a tornado warning?
In the two years that Jeff and Kammie have been living in Memphis, they have experienced three warnings.
They explained that you want to be on the first floor in a bathroom, closet, or pantry- a space where
you're surrounded by walls to protect you if a tornado does come. Also, whatever house or building you're in,
you want to be in the middle of the house, again, the more walls you have around you the better.

The following Tuesday night, Jay informed me he got a tornado warning on his phone. We checked online and
sure enough, there was warning of a possible tornado coming within the next 30 minutes. Ummm scary!
By now it was almost dark, so we stepped outside where we saw a very gray and stormy looking sky.
To make things more eery, we heard a high pitch siren going off.

After panicking a little, we remembered our conversaiton with Jeff and Kammie. We are on the third floor
in the back corner of our complex with no apartment buildings to the right of us. We knew we needed to scram!
Jay called Jeff, then Jeff invited us to come to their place to join them and another couple from the complex.
I grabbed Mouse, Jay grabbed the keys and we were out!
[I laugh now because really, we should have at least grabbed our wallets or something.]
As we ran to our car, rain was coming down and the wind started picking up. I was really gettin spooked!
Once we got to the Lee's we decided to play some games to pass the time. So we played while frequently
checking in on the weather status. It wasn't long until we learned that we were in the clear!
But because we were having such a fun time with our friends, we stayed awhile longer and played Mad Gab.

We're so grateful to the Lee's for once again welcoming us into their home, and we're really grateful to be alive.
